Frequently Asked Questions - Please read through before submitting materials.

What kind of work can I submit?
Script Alley accepts screenplays and teleplays of any genre. For notes on treatments, outlines, or longer material such as novellas or full-length novels, please contact us for a quote.

When can I submit my script?
Script Alley accepts submissions 24 hours a day, 365 days a year either online, or via snail mail. When your submission has been processed, you'll receive a confirmation e-mail indicating that it has arrived and gone out to your reader.

How long does coverage take?
Standard coverage will be returned within 10 business days. We also provide a rush service for those working on a deadline. For an additional $60, you can receive your feedback 2 business days after we receive it. Please see our Services page for additional turnaround times.

What is a coverage report?
A coverage report is for internal use only within an agency, studio, or production company. It gives the basic details of the script (writer, attachments if any, number of pages, period, and genre), a synopsis (similar to Cliffs Notes), comments (about the writing, concept, story, often per the criteria of the company), a "good to not-good" rating scale (for story, character, dialogue, visual quality, title, concept, commercial), and an overall rating from either Recommend (strong or weak), Consider (strong or weak), to Pass.

A coverage report from Script Alley is intended for the writer and includes notes on how to make the script a better read according to the same industry standards as outlined above.

Do you provide a synopsis of my screenplay?
At Script Alley, we prefer that our readers spend their time exclusively on notes to maximize their time with your script and give you the most detailed comments possible, so we have eliminated the synopsis portion of our coverage.

Are there discounts for submitting multiple scripts at the same time?
Instead of offering multiple script discounts we keep the price as low as possible for every script submitted. Our discounts begin at the revision stage, with material resubmitted through our Dedicated Writers Program.

Does my script have to be formatted? How long should my script be?
Yes. Scripts should be formatted according to industry standards. Traditionally, feature-length screenplays are 90-130 pages, written in 12-point Courier, and bound with brass brads (Acco #5) and cardstock covers.

How do I submit my script?
You have the choice of submitting material electronically or via snail mail. Go to the Submit page of the site for options and instructions.

How do I protect my script?
We require that all scripts be registered with the WGA (www.wga.org) or copyrighted through the U.S. Copyright Office (www.copyright.gov). Keep in mind that many ideas are similar, and Script Alley is not responsible for scripts with similar storylines.

Who will read my script?
All scripts will be evaluated by an industry professional with extensive experience. Please see our About Us page for a select list of credits.

What if I don't agree with my coverage?
Coverage is a subjective process by nature, and Script Alley does not guarantee that every writer will agree with the feedback provided. Sometimes there are discrepancies between what the writer is trying to convey and what the professional reader gets from the read. A valuable part of receiving coverage is being able to see which elements of your script are coming across and which could use some clarification.

That being said, our main goal is to ensure that you are happy with our service. If you have serious concerns about your notes, please let us know and we'll evaluate the situation and do everything in our power to resolve it to your satisfaction.

Can I submit an adaptation of a previously written work or similar material such as a book or play?
Yes, we love reading adaptations. However, keep in mind that our readers may or may not be familiar with the original source material. Your script will be evaluated based ONLY on the screenplay you submit. Before submitting an adaptation to Script Alley, please make sure that you have the legal right to adapt the material.

Why is it required that I read and accept the terms of the release form before submitting my materials to Script Alley?
Release forms are standard procedure when submitting to contests, festivals, agencies, and coverage services. The main purpose is to make sure you fully understand the services we offer and under what terms we agree to provide those services.
